William "Chico" Rollins

William “Chico” Rollins was born in Fairbanks, Alaska on October 12, 1967. He passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home on February 10, 2023 at the age of 55. According to his parents, who called him Bill, he was a quiet, shy child with a tender heart. He learned to hunt ginseng and mushrooms with his mother. He loved the great outdoors, honing his hunting and fishing skills at his father’s side. Bill was a gifted artist. Starting as an apprentice in high school, he spent his entire career as a skilled stone mason, illustrator, and wood carver. We will always remember Bill for his playful nature and his amazing, loving heart. He taught us the meaning of love and compassion. His family and friends, who knew him as “Chico”, always came first. He gave everything and kept nothing for himself, except his one true love, his lifted Chevy Silverado. Author Melanie Shawn wrote, “He never met a stranger. Every person in the world, to him, was just a friend he hadn’t met yet. He always saw the good in people.” She could have been writing about Bill. His heart beat for his family, and his friends were always in his heart. Bill is survived by the enduring love of his parents, Vernon and Chom Yae, his sons Cory and Collin, his daughter-in-law Lara, his sister Carol, his grandkids Ella Marie, Caleb Ira, Lexi Rae, and Lilli Jo, his nephews Jake, Kyle, Michael, and Ansel, nieces Basie and Melody. He will live on in the hearts of his lifelong friends and always in the hearts of his extended family. His loving wife Joani Abram Rollins, her sons Jared and Jordan, her daughter Morgan, their grandkids Laikyn Oakley, Zane Blake, and Krue Arin. A memorial service will be 2:00pm Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 South Old State Road 37 in Bloomington. Visitation will be from 12:00pm until service time Sunday.
