Ancel J. Black Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Ancel J. Black, 79, of Bloomington, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. He was born on March 4, 1942, in Greene County; the son of Lawrence and Goldie (Stephens) Black. Ancel was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served by working on various aircraft. He went on to work as a heavy equipment operator in the coal mine, along with various roadwork and bulldozer projects. Ancel was a former member of the American Legion and enjoyed outdoor activities that included hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was also an avid animal lover and coon hunter. Ancel is survived by his daughters, Darla Elliott, and Mary (Rodney) Stone; granddaughters, Jessica (Ben) Duprey and Abbigail Stone; great-grandchildren, Skylar, Bella, Benny, and Levi; sisters, Doris (Jack), Lois, Katherine (Russ); and brothers, Van Dwane (Barbara) and John (Judy); along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn; sisters, Annice Sears and Ruthann Elkins; and brother, Leon Black. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
