Avis Marie McDaniel

Avis. Marie McDaniel, 85, of Bloomington passed away on Wednesday January 17, 2024 at her home with her family by her side. She was born on June 10, 1938 at home in Pamona, Illinois the daughter of Bennie Ogle and Mabel Helen (Davis) Gibbs. Avis was a graduate of Alto Pass High School. And a graduate Missouri Baptist Nursing School. She married the love of her life Robert Edward “Bob” McDaniel on September 7, 1958 in Anna, Illinois they were happily married 65 years. Avis professional life started at Missouri Baptist Hospital becoming a registered nurse. After the move to Indiana, Avis worked at various hospitals and the IU Health Center at Indiana University. Much of her career was then spent as a nurse for Dr. Schechter a pediatrician. She truly enjoyed her time there, and working with families and children. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Leesburg, Fl. Where she volunteered as a nurse in the clinic the church ran. Avis was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and “gigi”, she loved her family and loved spending time with them. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, playing cards, golf, and riding roller coasters with her grandkids. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. Avis is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert E. “Bob” McDaniel of Bloomington; three daughters, Beverly (Mell) Smigielski of Mexico Beach, FL; Beth (Rick) Krouse of Ellettsville; Barbie (Pat) Strange of Ellettsville; seven grandchildren, Melanie (Pat) Helton; Brandon (Kayla) Smigielski; Michael (Hailey) Smigielski; Ryan (Trista) Blann; Jesse Blann; Ben Krouse and Katy Strange; five great grandchildren, Rylie; Brynlie, Tyler (Preston); Jordynn and Kinsley; a niece Kellie Gibbs. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Mabel Gibbs; one brother, Ben Gibbs Jr; two nephews, Benjie Gibbs and Keith Gibbs. The family would like to also express their sincere appreciation for the loving care of Avis by the staff at Bell Trace, Southern Care Hospice and Visiting Angels. A memorial service to be held at a later date. Cremation Rites have been accorded.
