C. Robert "Bob" Burks Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

C. Robert “Bob” Burks, 86 of Bloomington, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Monroe Hospital in Bloomington, IN. Born, November 12, 1935 in Bloomington IN; He was the son of the late Ted and Lois (Haflich) Burks. He joined the military in 1958 where he ended up meeting the love of his life, Marilyn (Stallings) in Olympia, Washington. They were married 47 years before her passing in 2007. He started his career at IU in 1951 at the age of 16 as a “pin boy” at the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) Lanes. Bob and Marilyn came back to Bloomington where he started back at the IMU Lanes as the Recreation Manager for 47 years, 35 of those years were served as the IU Bowling Coach starting in 1969. He was a mentor and father type to all the bowlers on the teams over the years. He really enjoyed spending time with all the students along with the many trips and adventures that were had throughout his career. Bob also enjoyed traveling “out west” with his family every July to see the Rockies, all the National Parks, and everything in between. Camping and building the biggest campfires (bowling pins were the best firewood) were his favorite thing about being outside. He also had a love for fishing any pond he could. He was an avid Cubs fan along with both women’s and men’s IU basketball. Bob was an amazing family man, and his family was the biggest light in his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; their son, Robbie in 1970; and his sister Betty Fisher. He is survived by his three sons, Richard (Rita) Burks of Bloomington, John (Janet) Burks of Ellettsville, and Steven Burks also of Ellettsville, his four grandchildren Matt (Maggie) Burks, Amber (Justin) Clark, Chris (Heather) Burks, Lindsey Burks, and 12 great-grandchildren Madison, Miley, Caitlynn, Bryson, Mackenzie, Carson, Brystol, Mason, Carter, Marilyn, Cooper, and Chloe. Visitation will be 11am to 2pm on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Allen Funeral Home 4155 S. Old SR 37 in Bloomington, Indiana. Funeral services will be 2pm on Tuesday at Allen Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington.
