Clara Mae Axsom

Clara Mae Axsom, 81, of Bloomington passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Bloomington surrounded by her family. She was born February 3, 1943, in Monroe County, IN, to Jasper and Roberta Clara (Miller) Sipes. Clara was a 1961 graduate of Smithville High School. She married the love of her life Leston D. Axsom Jr. on January 19, 1963, they were married for fifty-three years. Clara was an amazing mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she worked as the house-keeping director for Meadowood Retirement Community for twenty-eight years before she retired. She loved the Lord and was a member of Turning Point Apostolic Church in Ellettsville Indiana where she served faithfully as a Board member/Trustee for many years. She also was a Sunday School Teacher and loved bringing kids to church driving the church bus. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed working in the yard and around the house. Clara was an avid reader and loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. She is survived by her son, Andrew D. (Amy) Axsom of Bloomington, two daughters, Angelia R. (Hank) Baugh of Bloomington, Cynthia G. (Ron) Hawkins of Ellettsville, eighteen grandchildren Ashley (Chet) Thomas, Brad (Candance) Baugh, Andrew (Kendra) Baugh, Amanda (Randy) Dunaway, Kelsie West, Jaden (McKenna) Baugh, Allie (Levi) Biddle, Alexis, Tommy, Lori and Matthew Baugh, Tyler (Angel) Hawkins, Jordan (Emily) Hawkins, Abigail (Alex) Mahurin; Emily, Andrew, and Elizabeth Axsom; Samantha Rosenplot; twenty-two great grandchildren, two brothers, Jerry Sipes of Fort Payne, AL; Phillip (Becky) Sipes of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Roberta Sipes; and her husband, Leston D. Axsom Jr. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Turning Point Apostolic Church in Ellettsville with Rev. Ron Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday June 2, 2024, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm and again, on Monday, June 3, 2024, from 10:00 am to service time also at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Turning Point Apostolic Church Building Fund in Ellettsville. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory have been entrusted with arrangements.
