Edna Marie Rubin

Edna Marie Rubin, 95, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021 in Bloomington, Indiana surrounded by her family. She was born on September 16, 1926 in Fowler, Kansas, the daughter of Jesse Thomas Scoggins and Florence May (Stillwell) Scoggins. She married the love of her life, Max Rubin, May 8, 1946. Her husband, her parents, and her 5 siblings preceded her in death. Edna and Max met on a train in Chicago. He was a WWII soldier from Philadelphia preparing for deployment to China, and she was a country girl from Kansas heading home after visiting family. Max saw Edna board the train and rushed to save the seat beside him for her. Through letters, they fell in love and that love only grew stronger throughout their almost 73 years of marriage. Edna was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She was a bright light to everyone who met her. Her smile, her laugh, her warmth, and her heartfelt loving care drew everyone to her. Survivors include daughter Marla Etling (Gary), son Brad Rubin (Gaylene), daughter Karen Bruhn (Mark), and son Lee Rubin; grandchildren Amy Housman (Dave), Tina Elsey (Craig), Shari Smith (Nate), Erin Littrell, Daniel Bruhn (Katie), Emily Underwood, Jessica Ide (Zach), and Geavonna Morrison (Kyle); 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Edna was dearly loved by her family and she will be most deeply missed. The family will gather for a private service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the IU Health Bloomington Hospice House or Beth Shalom in memory of Edna.
