Elmo Scott Young Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Elmo Scott Young, loving husband and father passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at his home at the age of 96. He was born on March 7, 1926 in Martinsville, Indiana to Elmer Scott and Gertrude (Chitwood) Young. After graduating from Unionville High School, he then served as a part of the greatest generation in WWII, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He married Bertha Mae (Chitwood) Young on January 10 1946; she preceded him in death on March 7, 1975. He then married Laura Sue (Anderson) Douglas Young on June 9, 1979 in Indianapolis, Indiana and she survives him. Elmo loved his four children Larry Young; Candy (Stephen) Young Johnson; Steven Douglas and Suzanne (Robert) Douglas Royer; who all survive him. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. An avid fisherman and lifelong IU basketball fan, Elmo worked for Marathon Oil Company for over 36 years before retiring. He earned the Purple Heart, 2 Bronze Stars and 2 Presidential Citations, fighting for the country he loved so much in Auchan, Germany. Elmo was a member of The Unionville Church of Christ, where he served as elder for many years. Above all, he was the kindest, most honest, loyal and loving person you could be. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is loved and, in our hearts, always and forever. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Thursday, June 23, 2022 at the Unionville Church of Christ. With Rev. Kent Ellett officiating. Burial will follow at Little Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00pm Wednesday June 22, 2022 at the Allen Funeral Home 4155 S. Old St Rd 37 Bloomington. And Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 10:00am to service time at the church. Memorial contribution may be made to the Unionville Church of Christ 8056 IN – 45 Unionville, Indiana 47468.
