James R. Schwomeyer

December 21, 1926 - November 23, 2021

James R. Schwomeyer, age 94, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on November 23, 2021. He was at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Indianapolis on December 21, 1926, the son of Alfred and Edith Schwomeyer. James was married July 6, 1957 to Joyce L. Moran at Zion Evangelical Church, in Indianapolis. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years. They were blessed with three daughters, Cynthia Schwomeyer, Karen Schwomeyer, and Lori Friedlander (husband Jim). His grandchildren are Emma Chafin, Lily (Friedlander) Stoner (husband Nick), Samuel Chafin, Benjamin Friedlander, and Eli Chafin. His great grandsons are Henry Friedlander and Jack Stoner. He is survived by sister Carolyn Crump, brother and sister- in- law Ronald and Marilla Schwomeyer, sister- in- law Julia Schwomeyer, and sister- in- law Carole Lee Schwomeyer. James was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Edith (Poff) Schwomeyer, sister and brother- in- law Anna and Gordon Nichols, brother Warren Schwomeyer, brother Gerald Schwomeyer, and brother- in- law Leonard Crump. James graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1944. He was in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Seaman First Class and Electronics Technician. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Indiana Bell AT&T as a district engineer manager, and retired after 35 years. He was a member of Southside Christian Church, where he taught Sunday School with his wife for several years. A celebration of life service will be held at Southside Christian Church, 500 East Empire Mill Road, Bloomington, Indiana on Saturday, December 4. Visitation will start at 11:00 with the service at noon. The presiding pastors will be Keith Wisley and Jeff Grossnickle. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or Southside Christian Church. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S.
