    Michael E. "Mike" Irwin

    July 29, 1949 - March 5, 2021

    Michael E. “Mike” Irwin, 71, of Bloomington, IN passed away on Friday morning March 5, 2021 at the Hearthstone Health Campus with his loving wife by his side. Mike was born in Manistique, Michigan on July 29, 1949 to Frank Lamoor and Mildred Rowena (Holt) Irwin. He was a 1967 graduate of Rudyard High School in Rudyard, Michigan. He was proud to be a US Navy Veteran serving 20 years from 1968 to 1988. Mike then went to work for NSWC Crane Naval Base and also for various NSWC Crane Support Contractors (TPS Associates, RAYDAR and SAIC) for 30 years retiring in 2019. Mike married Sara Jordahl LaMar on February 3, 1991 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He loved his wife and family, the Navy and his home state of Michigan. Mike enjoyed investing and real estate. He liked to golf, was an archer growing up and an avid bowler while in the Navy. He loved football, NASCAR, telling stories about growing up in Michigan and his time in the Navy. He took immense pride in his family and serving his country and was a caring and giving friend. Mike will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. Mike is survived by his wife, Sara, of Bloomington; his children, Mitchell (Anne) Irwin of Everett, WA; Justin LaMar of Unionville; 2 granddaughters, Emily Irwin and Jamie Irwin; one sister, Mia (Bill) Wheeler of Marshall, MI; three brothers, Mitch (Jen) Irwin of Ann Arbor, MI; Millard Irwin of Kincheloe, MI; Maury (Angie) Irwin of Beaverton, MI; one sister-in-law, Linda Irwin of South Haven, MI; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Malcolm Irwin. A military service will be held at 12:00pm Saturday March 20, 2021 at the Allen Funeral Home 4155 S. Old St Rd 37 Bloomington. With a memorial gathering from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at the funeral home. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A graveside service With Military Honors will be held at 1:00pm Saturday May 29, 2021 at the Oaklawn Chapel Garden Cemetery in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. In lieu of flower memorial contribution may be made to the US Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society or Lewy Body Dementia Association.
