Ronald Lee “Ron” Chapman, 78, of Bloomington passed away October 25, 2021 at Hearthstone Health Campus. Born, December 11, 1942 in Anderson, IN; he was the son of Arthur and Harriet (Holzer) Chapman. Ron was a 1961 graduate of Anderson-Madison Heights High School. He earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Rose Polytechnic Institute (now Rose Hulman Institute of Technology) in 1965. There, he was member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and ROTC. After graduating from Rose Institute he worked for Public Service Indiana in Columbus where he engineered the wiring layout for the Greenwood Park Mall. Ron went to active duty in the US Army graduating from Military Intelligence School January 1967. As a military intelligence officer, he was assigned to special forces in Vietnam. He earned the rank of Captain and was awarded the Bronze Star. Ron took the LSAT (Law School Admission Test) in Saigon, and graduated from Indiana University School of Law in 1971. He was Notes Editor of law review. During his long legal career he was deputy prosecuting attorney for Brown County Schools and Perry-Clear Creek Fire Protection District and partner in several law firms in Bloomington concentrating his private practice in insurance defense and criminal defense. Ron was a highly skilled and effective trial lawyer. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include children, Michael Chapman (Trace), Shawn Alexander (Lt. Colonel Marc); Tara Koslowski (John); brother, Thomas Chapman (Pam); grandchildren, Victoria Jones, Abigail and Adam Alexander, Samuel and Levi Chapman, Margaret Mary and Beatrice Kozlowski; niece, Amy Chapman, and nephew, Jason Chapman (Kristin). Ron loved his family, his many friends, practicing law (especially jury trials), Lake Monroe, dogs, The Office Lounge, pro football (especially the Indianapolis Colts); IU basketball and casinos. An informal visitation and gathering to share memories of Ron will be, 1-3pm Saturday, October 30, 2021 at The Allen Funeral Home and Crematory 4155 S. Old State Rd. 37 in Bloomington.
