Charles Samson May

Charles Samson May, age 46, was born June 7, 1976 in Chicago, Illinois, to his parents, Pamela Jody May and Michael Doran May. In 1985, his family returned to Bloomington where he attended St. Charles Elementary School and Tri-North Middle School, graduating from Bloomington High School North in 1994. In high school, Samson met his eventual life partner, best friend, and wife, Amanda Blake Warren-May. Samson and Blake were married in 2013. Samson worked closely with his family at St. John Associates, as a physician recruiting consultant, where he personally placed over 250 physicians in communities across the United States. At an early age, Samson became a certified SCUBA diver investing some of his greatest passion exploring the coral reefs of Grand Cayman Island where he visited over many years. Samson was also an adamant student of music and film. He possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of culture and was deeply moved by the metaphors he found in art. He was perhaps most deeply moved by the poetry of the Grateful Dead. As a self-proclaimed Dead Head, Samson traveled to numerous shows and festivals where he would dance late into the night. Samson cherished his many close relationships and cared for others with a genuine and attentive love. As a result of Samson’s hospitable personality, he carried with him a sense of total comfort and security onto every piece of earth he laid his feet upon. He was gifted with an effortless smile that would cause any heart to melt and the warmest, devouring hugs that could relieve any worries. He mastered the art of compassion in all respects possible. Samson’s enlivening character has intensely impacted those he loved and will continue to remain in the most cherished memory by his surviving family and friends. Samson is survived by his wife Blake, his children Keenan Allan May, Kaia Silene May, Delila Star Warren, and Ellie Neona Warren, his siblings Maryellen Ruth May and Michael Doran May II, his parents Pamela Jody May, Debra Mitchell, Michael Doran May, Sr., and Mary Sullivan Madore, his grandparents Doran William May and Maryellen May, and Samson’s dog Prince. Samson was preceded in death by his brother Zachary Paul May and his co-mother, Ann St. John.
