Frances Ellen Ice

Frances Ice, fondly known as Nanna Fran, peacefully completed her journey and left this world on January 7, 2024 at the age of 73. She chose to depart on the day of her mother’s birthday surrounded by her family. She was born on June 29, 1950. Frances was a beacon of love and strength for her family and friends, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever warm our hearts. Frances was a proud graduate of Shelbyville High School, where she excelled as a top student – making the National Honor Society. She was very competitive and worked hard to top her brother in academics. She continued her education at Indiana University, laying the foundation for a life filled with passion and purpose. Frances left a positive impact on those around her. Frances was deeply committed to Christ and was a dedicated member of Second Baptist Church for over forty years. She contributed to the church community as a member of the choir, a praise dancer, the missionary committee, children’s ministry, and a devoted volunteer. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. Frances had a remarkable ability to touch lives with her infectious smile. Her warm and welcoming nature made her a beloved figure in both her home and church communities. She embraced everyone for who they were and saw the goodness in all. As a true child of God, Frances found joy in serving others, particularly through her passion for cooking, which was exceptional. Known for making almost everything from scratch, she often fed her community and church, taking requests and creating culinary delights that became the stuff of legend. Frances also was a committed public servant serving at the local election polls for over twenty years. She was very passionate about her service to her community. Even in death Frances found a way to continue giving of herself through organ donation. In her free time, she could be found camping with Jolene Wright and friends at Lake Monroe and spending time at Lake Manitou with family. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends especially her grandchildren. Her love language was giving, extended to making award-winning pies, a testament to her culinary prowess. Frances had a special affinity for children, finding purpose and joy in their presence. Her nurturing spirit and guidance served as a source of inspiration for many. Frances was not only an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, and friend but also a confidant. Her impact on the lives she touched will be felt for generations to come. Frances is survived by her siblings Robert (Louise) Cox, Steve (Suzan) Cox, and Mary Beth Boden. She is also remembered by her children Felicia Ice, Bryant Ice, Brandon Ice, and Infiniti (Calvin) Bland (Ice). Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren, including Xavier Ice, Xane Ice, Dureece Taylor, Emerson Taylor, Duane Taylor, Virtue Bland, Reginae Adams and Taylor Ferguson and her great granddaughter Dailynn Jones, Jolena Dismang, Jazelle Brown, her sister-in-law Terry Ice, and Andrea Ice King, Michael A Hall II, A’ria King, A’ndreus King and may other nieces, nephews and cousins Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Elizabeth Cox, her grandson Aaron Howard, and Brycen Ferguson, her brothers-in-laws, Chuck Boden, Kenny Ice, sister-in-law, Reetha Ann Lockhart. The celebration of life Service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00am at Second Baptist Church 321 N. Rogers St Bloomington. With Rev. Bruce Rose officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 10:00am to service time also at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be to the family to offset medical and funeral expenses., Frances touched countless lives with her radiant smile, leaving an indelible mark of love and compassion on all who were fortunate to know her.
