James "Jim" Glasgow

James A. "Jim" Glasgow, 87, Brownstown, formerly of Bloomington, died Thursday, April 26, at Daviess Community Hospital,Washington, Indiana. Jim was born January 2, 1925 in Monroe County to the late Lebert and Alice Glasgow. He was preceded in death by his second wife Mary Lou Glasgow and first wife Martha Jane Glasgow, and a older sister, Mabel Glasgow Kerr. Jim is survived by three sons, Steve (Susie) Glasgow, Clint (partner Scott Gilchrist) Glasgow, Bruce (Bonnie) Glasgow; four grandsons, Brent Glasgow, Joseph Glasgow, Jacob Glasgow, Mason Glasgow; three great grandsons, Hunter Glasgow, Lincoln Glasgow, James Glasgow; and one great grand daughter Danielle Glasgow. He was a member of Brownstown Christian Church, a founding and life member of Bloomington VFW Post 604, Fort Vallonia Coon Hunters Club, and Monroe County Masonic Lodge. He was one of the youngest of America's Greatest Generation. At seventeen years old, he enlisted in the US Navy immediately after Pearl Harbor and served in combat in the Pacific from early 1942 to the surrender of the Japanese, and was Honorably Discharged in January 1946. Jim worked as a blacksmith in the Monroe County limestone mills for many years. His last work in the mills was with the Indian Hill Stone Company. When Indian Hills Stone Mill ended operations, he founded and began operation of a successful welding business on Knightridge Road that he passed on to his son, Bruce Glasgow. Bruce recently passed the business on to the third generation. Bruce's son Jacob now operates the business Jim began thirty five years ago. As a youngster, and as a younger to middle age adult, he enjoyed coon hunting and squirrel hunting with tree hounds. Later in life he became a great fan of football. He loved watching Colts games on television and held season tickets for several years. He attended and also truly enjoyed church trip outings with Brownstown Christian seniors club, "Golden Wheels." Allen Funeral Home 4155 South Old Highway 37 in Bloomington is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held from 4:00PM to 8:00PM, on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 11:00AM at Allen Funeral Home, with Pastor Michael Hogg , officiating. Burial will follow at Knightridge Cemetery.
