Janet Hudgens Rowland

Janet Hudgens Rowland, 95, of Bloomington passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the Stonecroft Health Campus in Bloomington, IN. She was born on March 15, 1929, in Milltown, Indiana the daughter of Carter and Eula Adams. She was united in marriage to David Lee Rowland on August 24, 1952 in Milltown, IN. Janet and Dave shared a life together for 56 years. Janet was a graduate of Indiana University with a BA and MA in Education. She worked as an elementary school teacher first in Crawfordsville, in Martinsville, and then in Bloomington, Indiana for over 30 years before retiring in 1994. Janet was a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Bloomington, Monroe County History Museum, and Delta Zeta Sorority. She was an avid community volunteer. She enjoyed reading, camping, music, traveling, scrapbooking, quilting, and especially spending time with family. Janet also enjoyed her teaching career, children, and all dogs. Left to cherish Janet’s memory are her children, Amy (Cary) McDonald of Hayward, WI; and Jack Rowland of Bloomington, IN; her grandchildren Kyle (Monica); Joanna (Joell); Jeffrey (Mallory); and Shelby (Andrew); and great grandchildren Mia, Kainen; Rhett; Krew and Miles; and special nieces, nephew, and other relatives and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carter and Eula Adams; her in-laws, Harold and Mildred Rowland; her husband, David Rowland; brothers-in-law, Richard Rowland and John Brannan; and sisters-in-law, Joanne (Easton) Rowland and MaryAlice (Rowland) Brannan. The family would like to thank the staff at Stonecroft Memory Care and Southern Care Hospice for their compassionate care. They were always so helpful and kind. A private family graveside service is planned on June 15, at Rose Hill Cemetery. Pastor Kyrmen Rea of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, officiating. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her honor can be made to First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ or Southern Care Hospice. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory have been entrusted with arrangements.
