Jatin K. "Jay" Sharda

Jatin K. “Jay” Sharda, 69, of Bloomington, passed away on May 21, 2016 at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 9, 1946 in Uganda, Africa the son of Dharam K. and Kamla Rani. (Sharma) Sharda. Jay was a 1964 Graduate of St Michael’s High School in Patna, India. He was a graduate of Patna University in Patna India with a Bachelor’s degree in English in 1970. Jay also received his Master’s degree from Indiana University – Bloomington School of Journalism in 1974. He married Deborah D. Duke Sharda on August 29, 1976 in Louisville, KY. He was manager of the A&W on north college avenue in Bloomington for several years before going to work for Noble Romans for 13 years he became Vice President of Operations, in 1989 he started his own business and became the Owner and Operator of seven (7) different Subway(s) in Bloomington, Greenwood, Spencer and Ellettsville. He enjoyed golfing (both around here and in sunny Ft Myers, Florida), photography, reading his many books and newspapers, writing, cooking, and fly fishing. Jay loved his grandson’s and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Bloomington Country Club, American Cancer Society and the YMCA of Bloomington. Jay is survived by his life partner Deborah D. Sharda, his daughter, Kimberly A. (Jon Boruff) Sharda, four grandsons, Aaron A. Sharda-Miller, Julian J. Miller, Jonathon M. Boruff Jr., Logan A Boruff, and his mother-in-law, Ann Louise Duke all of Bloomington, and sister-in-law Donna L. Myers of Bluffton, SC, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews from literally all over the world. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Sushant Sharda of India, and a brother-in-law George W. Myers of Novi, MI. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday May 27, 2016, at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory 4155 S. Old State Road 37. Visitation will be Friday 10:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. The family ask that memorial contributions may be made in Jay’s memory to the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Bloomington.
