Joy Baranko

Joy Baranko, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep during the night of Friday, June 17th while residing at the First Community Village Long Term Care with Hospice in Columbus, OH. Following a series of health issues, she had moved to Columbus to be near her daughter, Cassie. Joy was born July 9, 1926 in Vincennes, IN, but lived the majority of her life in Bloomington, IN. She is predeceased by her parents Frank and Pearl Hockgeiger of Bloomington, IN, her brothers Paul and James Hockgeiger, and her devoted and loving husband, John G. Baranko D.D.S., to whom she had been married for 58 years. She is survived by her children, Cassandra Ann Jablonski (Paul Anthony Jablonski), Columbus, OH; Gregory John Baranko, Boulder, CO; Janet Siniscalchi, Boynton Beach, FL and Cynthia Marie Koppen (Michael Francis Koppen), Colleyville, TX. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Paul Victor Baranko and his wife, Dixie, Phoenix, AZ, and her sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Zakutansky, Portage, IN and Anna Mae Withsosky, Tucson, AZ, as well as by her grandchildren, Ross Anthony Jablonski, Kevin John Jablonski, Mary Haynoski, Elizabeth Siniscalchi, Timothy Siniscalchi, Colin Xavier Koppen and Keenan Malachi Koppen, and great granddaughter, Dakota Haynoski. She and her immediate family were previously parishioners of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Joy graduated from University High School in Bloomington, and attended Indiana University.As a full-time homemaker and mother, she was devoted to her family. She was always supportive of her children's and grandchildren's activities, in and outside of school, especially their musical pursuits. Music was clearly an important part of her own life, as well, and she always enjoyed attending live performances whenever possible. Friendly and outgoing, she was an active member of a service organization, Psi Iota Xi, that ran a Thrift Shop in Bloomington. She worked at the Indiana University golf course and was also an avid golfer, playing and winning awards at the IU course and local country club. Joy also won trophies as a member of a local bowling league. She was always a sports fan, especially college sports, and remained a loyal fan of Indiana University, in particular. Her jovial, social nature and lively sense of humor was appreciated by many throughout her life. A memorial viewing will be held at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old State Rd. 37, Bloomington, IN, 47401, (tel. 812.824.5905) on Wednesday, June 22 between the hours of 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held, 10 am on Thursday, June 23 at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 2222 East Third Street, Bloomington, IN. The burial service will be held at Valhalla Memory Gardens, 310 N. Johnson Ave., Bloomington, IN, 47404, directly after the Mass. Allen Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
