Mark Kevin Dougherty

Mark Kevin Dougherty, 66, of Bloomington, passed away on January 2, 2023. Born to Jack and Lucy Dougherty on April 16, 1956, at Scott Air Force Base in Belville, Illinois. He was raised in Medford, Massachusetts graduating from Medford High School in 1974 and relocated to Indiana. He married MaryAnn on August 21, 1976, in Jasper, before moving to St. Louis, Missouri, where their daughter, Kara was born. After which they relocated to the Bloomington area, where he discovered his passion for the floor covering industry. Together, Mark and MaryAnn established their own flooring company, CarpetsPlus COLORTILE in Bloomington in 1994. Mark excelled in the industry, where he received the award of Retailer of the Year twice, in addition to a Lifetime Achievement Award. Mark and MaryAnn retired together in 2022 due to Mark’s health decline from Huntington’s Disease. Mark was generous to his community, in which he supported through Habitat for Humanity, CASA, and various local youth sports leagues. Mark was active with Sunrise Rotary Club, having served as past president and volunteered with The Boys and Girls Club along with the Salvation Army. He loved washing his cars while listening to music, hiking, throwing a freebee, the Boston Red Socks and Boston Celtics. Mark was a humbled man, who will be remembered for his firm handshake, and was well-known for his gregarious nature. Mark is survived by his wife, MaryAnn Dougherty, daughter, Kara (Trevor) Mullis; step-children, Jeff (Lori) McEvilly, Shelly (Lonnie Burns) McEvilly, Sherry (John) Auberry, Kelly (Diane) McEvilly, Kerry McEvilly, Dana (Rodney) Miles, Anngie (Scott) Wyatt, and Kim (Ty) Madison; 24 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Kevin (Christine) Dougherty, Darren (Kelly) Dougherty, Michael Dougherty (Bobby Katis), and Sandy (Jim) Farley; step-siblings, Janet (John) Burks and Morey (Gayle) Barnes; and step-mother, Marilyn Dougherty. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Dougherty; mother, Lucy Aleskivitch; stepfather, John Aleskivitch; and grandson, Jacob Auberry. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023, at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 South Old State Road 37, Bloomington. Family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at the funeral home and again from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.
