Mary Patterson Livingston

Mary Patterson Heliker Livingston, 89, peacefully passed away Thursday, August 5 2021, in her home in Bloomington, Indiana with members of her family by her side. Mary Pat was born June 22, 1932 in Olean, New York to Oviatt V. Heliker and Dorothy E. Patterson. She attended Olean High School where she was a reporter for the school newspaper, a member of Adelphi’s Sorority and enjoyed the Glee Club, graduating in 1950. She continued her education at New York State University and Westbrook Academy. Mary Pat was a loving mother to two children, daughter Debra and son David. Mary Pat married her husband, Julian R Livingston on November 27, 1983. They shared a beautiful life and marriage together that included adventure and travel to many countries, a shared love for genealogical research and a deep affection for the arts. She worked many years as a bookkeeper, then began a writing career, publishing several books as a historical researcher, particularly Civil War studies. She was a member of many genealogical societies around the country. She participated in many chorales in communities where she lived and acted as behind the scenes for several theatrical events. An avid reader, she also enjoyed crocheting and knitting baby blankets for each of her Grandchildren, whom affectionately nicknamed and called her Grandma Bobbie throughout her relationships with them. She had many notable memberships to American organizations including the Ruth Wyllys Chapter-Daughters of the American Revolution, Hartford, Connecticut; the Bloomington Chapter National League of American Pen Women, Bloomington Chapter, DAR and Civil War Roundtable. Mary Pat is preceeded in death by her parents, her brother James O. Heliker, son David C Bowser of Easton, Pennsylvania and her husband, Julian R Livingston. Mary Pat is survived by one daughter Debra C Glenn (Dale), step daughters Susan Washabaugh(Pete) and Diana Friedley (Geoff), daughter in law Patricia Steele Bowser, sister in law Gwen Heliker, niece Traci Kim(Glenn). Grandchildren Jeremy Glenn (Heidi), Tyler Glenn, Andrew Glenn (Michelle), Lainey Clark(Joshua), David Bowser (Amber), Kara Bowser, Katie Gordon (Scott), Pearce Washabaugh (Masa), Alec Washabaugh (Anna), Grace Friedley and 14 Great Grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington.
