Michele Ann Arthur

Michele Ann Arthur, 78, of Bloomington, passed away Friday, January 9, 2026. She was born May 2, 1947, in Bloomington to Bernard and Violet P. (Webb) Goodman. One of twelve children, Michele always found a way to stand out. In 1977, she married Lemuel Arthur, and the two shared fifteen loving years together until his passing. A woman of quiet mystery, Michele revealed little about her personal interests—but one thing was certain: she adored Elvis. Music playing piano, and dancing brought her great joy, as did peaceful evenings at home watching classic television shows from her youth. Mike & Molly was a particular favorite. Michele possessed a magnetic energy that drew people to her. She was deeply proud of her volunteer work with the Area 10 Agency on Aging, where she dedicated her time and heart to serving others. Known affectionately by many as “the favorite sister,” Michele leaves behind a large and loving family who will forever cherish her spirit. She is survived by her siblings: James I. (Diana) Goodman of Bloomington; Patricia A. (Paul) Lechler of Reno, NV; Rosemary S. (David) Landis of Bloomington; Susan E. (Silas) DeVaney of Martinsville; Janet M. Sample of Bloomington; Debora L. Inman of Williams, IN; Kathryn R. (Dan) Brown of Connecticut; and John P. Goodman of Bloomington. She is also survived by twenty-six nieces and nephews: Melody Richardson Norris, Samuel Goodman, Cody Goodman, Gabriel Hart, Charlie Dix, Pam Kirk, Cheryl Fike, Bobbie Knapp, Tina Gilliatt, Jake Lechler, Robert Parks, Matthew Landis, Chris Landis, Melissa Smith, Kathleen Lorenzen, Charles Sample, Heather Fitzgerald, Danny Thomas, Sara Neidigh, Ashlie Chambers, Justin Chambers, Andrew Bernard Brown, Gracie Goodman, Samantha Goodman, Johnathon Goodman, Nick LaPresto, and many others. Michele was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard Goodman and Violet P. Webb Goodman; her husband, Lemuel Arthur; her sisters, Barbara J. Dix and Mary J. (Guy) Gilliatt, her brother, Philip Goodman; and her nephews, Eddie Fike, Zachary Gilliatt, Colby Coe Nugent. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Area 10 Agency on Aging in Michele’s honor. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to all the wonderful staff at Elders Journey for making her feel so special. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Garden. Visitation will be Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Allen Funeral Home & Crematory, 4155 S. Old State Road 37. “See you later, alligator; after awhile, crocodile.”
