Sam Ashton Dennis

Sam Ashton Dennis 54, of Bloomington passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, January 23, 2016, with his loving wife Melody and daughters by his side. Sam was born on February 21, 1961 to Delores Counts and William Dennis. Sam was self-employed as a master craftsman, who took great pride in his work; Sam Dennis Woodworking. He was a graduate of Bloomington Alternative School in 1980 and Vincennes University Associate Electronic Degree in 1982. Sam leaves behind his wife of 28 years Melody Dennis, their children, Jessica M. Dennis, Jasmine L. Smithson (Jason), Samantha R. Dennis as well as his grandchildren that he adored Zailee Jo Smithson and Ty Cole Smithson. His Mother Dolores Counts (Richard), William Dennis (Leonna), Grandmother Dorothy E. Henderly of Naples, Florida, Aunt Peggy D. Poka (Attila), Uncle Stanley Henderly (Wanda), Siblings: Billy Jean Clark (Mike), Gosport, IN, Michael A. Dennis (Merit), Bastrop, TX, Chantal Greenfield (Jay), Naples, Italy. Sam was proceeded in death by his grandfather Edgar E. Henderly (Ohio), Uncle Edgar E. Henderly II (Ohio) Sam's life was full of many joyous moments; He was a strong family man. Sam would always introduce himself as, “Sam I am!" He never met a stranger. He always told his family, live life to the fullest, enjoy each day, always finish what you start, and live life with no regrets. Sam had many hobbies, mushroom hunting, gardening, fishing, and his deep love for music has been imbedded into his children. Melody and family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and doctors at IU Health, and deepest thanks to Hospice of Bloomington. "Sam I am" will be sadly missed, and forever in our hearts! Funeral services will be at Allen Funeral Home & Crematory. Friday, January 29, 2016, at 11am with Robert Thomas Officiating, burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4pm to 8 pm, Thursday January 28, 2016, and Friday from 10am to service time at funeral home.
