Simon Walker Kakos Mullins

Simon Walker Kakos Mullins, 15, oldest son to Matthew Mullins and Debra Kakos, brother to August and Elias, grandson to LeRoy and Sherry Mullins of Maryland Heights, MO and George Kakos of Decorah, IA, loved by his many aunts, uncles, and cousins, died on March 23, 2016. Born October 6, 2000, in Albuquerque, NM, his natural generosity and kindheartedness was a guidestar for his friends, often going out of his way to help someone needing a kind word. He loved to make everyone smile with his quick wit and deplent of horrible puns; often several strung together despite audible groans. Simon will be missed dearly by his brothers as a role model and an arbiter of what was currently hip and cool. Always willing to try something new, he participated in several sports and activities. A music enthusiast, his wardrobe consisted almost exclusively of T-shirts from his favorite bands like Rush, Led Zeppelin, Gorillaz, and The White Stripes, complemented by one of his ever-present beanies. Always an avid reader, he would devour all sorts of books, but recently was most enthusiastic for The Walking Dead, Scott Pilgrim, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. A freshman at Bloomington South, he was developing an active voice in animal welfare issues and equal rights issues for all people. After appearing in school plays during both years at Batchelor Middle School, his dedication to acting soared as he found a second home in Theatre South and their production of The Outsiders. He was very active in Boy Scout Troop 148 and had completed the rank of Life Scout and was close to attaining his Eagle badge. Simon loved the hiking and camping opportunities and the fellowship of his friends. He participated in the 2014 National Youth Leadership Training course, and served on the staff for the 2015 and 2016 courses. Family and friends can commemorate Simon's life at a visitation to be held at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church 2700 East Rogers on Tuesday March 29, 2016 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM with a Memorial Service starting at 7:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to The Theater Department at Bloomington High School South or Boy Scout Troop #148. His life and legacy will continue through the gift of organ donation.
