Susan Rose Allen

Susan Rose Allen, 82, passed away October 5, 2021 with her loving family by her side. She grew up in Wilkinsburg, PA and graduated from Wilkinsburg High School. She was the ultimate planner, organizer, list maker and always had a yellow lined-pad and pen nearby. She used these talents to the benefit of many wonderful organizations and was proud to serve as President of the Daughters of Ireland in Savannah, GA, and jointly with her husband as Presidents of the Western PA Square Dance Association. She was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants and several other genealogy societies, was a devout Catholic and active in many churches throughout the years. She was always there for her daughters’ school and extracurricular activities, and spent many years as a Corp Mother with the Golden Triangles Baton and Drum Corp. Professionally, she retired as Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Forbes Regional Health Systems in Monroeville, PA. Throughout her career, she made and maintained friendships with co-workers from Magee Women’s Hospital, WTAE Radio, and PM Pittsburgh. Susan loved to read and enjoyed many hobbies including photography, genealogy and RV’ing with her husband all over the country. She was an avid college football fan, especially when routing for Penn State and the University of Pittsburgh. She loved the beach and had a special fondness for Hawaii, Myrtle Beach, Savannah, and the Jersey Shore. Susan was predeceased by her parents, John Joseph O’Neil and Mary T. Ason O’Neil of Wilkinsburg, PA. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty years, Craig W. Allen, her daughters and cherished son in laws, Susan Holly Barton (Rick) of Bloomington, IN, Paige A. Grodecki (Jon) of St. Johns, FL and her grandchildren, Kyle Barton and Chasey Grodecki, who were the joy of her life. She leaves behind two brothers, William O’Neil and wife Lee, who was like a sister to her, of Exton, PA, John O’Neil (Diane) of Lower Burrell, PA, and a sister, Roseann Barlett (Jay) of New Kensington, Pa, as well as many very special nieces and nephews. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. The family will hold a private memorial service and internment will occur at a future date at New St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in New Kensington, PA.
