Our Story

Learn our story, from the beginning and into the future.

Ever since we opened our gates we have approached life (and death) differently. While some just see the end of a loved one’s life as a time for grief and mourning, we prefer to think of it as a time for reflection, appreciation and even celebration. This is evident in everything we do, from the way we conduct our services to the amenities we choose to offer. We are not a burial ground. We are a close knit community dedicated to honoring, sharing and preserving the amazing and inspirational stories that are life.

Why Us?

In a nutshell? Experience, professionalism, compassion, and empathy.

Why Us?

We've learned a lot over many years. Like how to present options without overwhelming. And how to meet the needs of many caring parties. People come to us in difficult times, and we respond kindness, calmness and expertise. Our goal is to create a beautiful occasion and make you feel welcome, always. We spend our days planning with families. We stay up to date with industry developments. And we make hard times a little easier.

Learn the legacy.

In 2017, we proudly celebrated 100 years in business in Bloomington and remain Bloomington's only locally owned funeral home and crematory.

In 1917 W. Walter Allen and his brother established the first funeral home in Bloomington to carry the Allen name, which is known today as Allen Funeral Home and Crematory.

Since 1917, Allen Funeral Home has been a part of the Bloomington and Monroe County community, standing ready to assist families at a time of need. Through a series of locations, first at 4th and Walnut St's to 6th and Washington St. and for many years at 3000 E. Third St. to our new location at 4155 South Old State Road 37, we have continued to offer the families we serve the most modern and convenient facilities. We are the only funeral home or cemetery located in Bloomington and all of Monroe County to offer an onsite crematory.

Our firm has progressed through the years and now maintains one of the most attractive, most modern and one of the largest funeral homes in Southern Indiana to serve your family.  We are proud of our staff of directors who are dedicated to their profession.  They stand ready to assist your family at your time of need with care, compassion and expertise at a time when you need them most.   In 2016, we  expanded our facilities to accommodate the cremation of pets to our expanding line of services we offer.

The staff of Allen Funeral Home is committed to providing each and every family with professional, caring service. When you call upon Allen Funeral Home, you may rest assured that your family will be provided with the care and compassion families have come to expect for 100 years.
